Gaby Roslin talks to Chris Evans at Virgin Radio

When the wonderful Gaby Roslin joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch, she spoke about simple ways that we can spread the joy.

Indeed, the TV, podcast and radio star’s new book is called just that. Spread the Joy is out this Thursday (12th October) and guides readers towards living a more joyous life, from how to start the morning better, to why wearing clashing outfits is the way forward.

“Stop worrying about what everybody thinks. That's the first thing,” she said. “In the book, I go on and on and on about… stop worrying, because they're more worried about themselves than they are about you. It's about them. If you want to wear clashing colours and clashing patterns, do it. Don't think ‘Oh, no, what will people think?’. It doesn't matter. If you love to do that, if you want spots and squares, if you want pink and orange - I wear a lot of pink and orange - whatever it is, just put it on and feel confident. And if you like it, isn't that important? And then you're gonna go out and spread the joy, because that’s the whole idea.”

Gaby continued: “One of the other things in the book I talk about is if you're in a work environment, and there's somebody toxic there, or they're negative, it's about them, again, it's not about you. But sometimes you must take yourself away from that, just if it means stepping outside, going out into the fresh air, looking up.

“That's my big thing. When you walk, stop walking around with your head in your phones. Just look around you, look at the buildings, look at the sky, look at the trees. There are no two leaves that are the same. Just look at a leaf for a moment. It's a simple thing. The book is simple. It's meant to be simple.”

Tomorrow (10th October) is World Mental Health Day. Gaby told her former Big Breakfast co-host: “There are people that I'm so lucky to have had in my life, that have meant so much to me, and who have given me the time. And I think the important thing is that it's about listening, it's about giving people the time, it's about taking the things that you need from people around you, and then keeping them in your heart.”

Gaby has more than 200,000 followers on Instagram, hosts That Gaby Roslin Podcast: Reasons to be Joyful, and has presented shows for the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Channel 5. “I love what I do. And I've only ever wanted to do it, since I was three,” she said. “And actually, in the pandemic, one of the things that happened was I woke up one morning and I suddenly thought, I'm never gonna say again, ‘I'm addicted to my job’ or ‘I'm obsessed with my job’. I actually just went, ‘I love my job’. And it was such a release. It really was’.
