Ryan Thomas was beaming with pride ahead of his teen daughter, Scarlett Thomas, making her acting debut in Waterloo Road.

The young actress stars as Izzy in the BBC revival series, alongside Ryan’s younger brother Adam, who is reprising his role as Donte Charles.

Ryan shares 14-year-old Scarlett with fellow soap star, Coronation Street's Tina O’Brien, so it’s no surprise to see the apple hasn’t fallen too far from the (acting) tree.

Taking to Instagram ahead of last night’s (Tuesday 3rd January) series opener, Ryan looked ever the proud dad as he gushed about Waterloo Road becoming somewhat of a family affair.

He told fans: “What a time to be alive. Tonight, BBC One, 8pm, Waterloo Road, my little brother Adam, my little nephew Teddy and eldest daughter Scarlett take over the TV screen together as a family.

“Talk about a proud moment for the Thomases! Wow. I can't wait for you guys to see it. We watched it together as a family. It's beyond beautiful, so well shot and an incredible storyline."

Ryan’s brother Adam returned to the new series alongside co-star Katie Griffiths, who starred as girlfriend-now-wife Chloe Grainger.

Angela Griffith, who played counsellor Kim Campbell in the original series, is also back at the comp, this time playing the Headteacher.

Newcomers to the series include former Strictly Come Dancing star Kym Marsh plays dinner lady Nicky Walters, who has two children, Preston and Tonya, at the school.

Waterloo Road will continue on Tuesday 10th January at 8pm on BBC One. All seven episodes will be available in full as a boxset on BBC iPlayer, while BBC One will air the new series weekly.
