If you've been waiting to renew your passport, this is your warning that the price is about to go up.

Fees are set to go up by approximately 9%.

The new renewal fee will go up to £82.50 from £75.50 to replace an expired passport through an online form.

It will be a £7 increase.

The price for a child's passport will also increase by £4.50.

It will go up from £49 to £53.50.

Postal applications are going up from £85 to £93 for adults and £58.50 to £64 for children.

The new fees increase from Thursday, February 2.

Prices haven't gone up in five years.

The Home Office says the increase should "reduce the reliance on taxpayers’ money to improve the service".

A statement says it will "move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it".

Renewing a passport used to take just two to three weeks in 2019.

The system has been hit with delays.

Since January 2022, more than 95% of standard applications have been processed within a whopping 10 weeks.

The delays has caused problems for holiday makers.

You are urged to leave as much time as possible.

Hopefully the increased fees will improve things.
