It’s nice to know there are still kind people around, and one Aldi shopped received a pleasant surprise when a complete stranger offered to pay for her shopping.
Helen from Queensland, Australia, posted about the unexpected good deed on a Facebook group.
The happy tale started when she let a man move ahead of her in the queue.
Once his shopping was scanned and paid for, she started loading her items onto the checkout belt.
She noticed the man was waiting nearby at another checkout.
When Helen tried to pay for her shopping, the man she had allowed in front stepped in and insisted on paying her food bill, at a total of around £137 ($187.)
She said the man credited his random act of kindness to the fact she did a "nice thing" by letting him go ahead of her in the queue.
In the Facebook post reported by The Mirror, Helen wrote: "Did my weekly shop today at my usual Aldi and there was a bit of a line and only one register open.
"When a second register opened, I motioned for the man in front of me in the other line to go first even though I was closer because he was there before me.
"Anyway, he hung around at the front after he had been served and when my groceries were finished being scanned, he stepped up and paid for them! It was $187!
"He said it was because I did a nice thing for him. I didn't think anything of letting him go first because he was there before me.
"What he did for me was a lot nicer than what I did for him, I couldn't believe it!"
Many fans were impressed by the man’s kind gesture, and rushed to the comment section to praise him.
One wrote: "So wonderful to see they're still kind people in this world both of you deserve credit for your kindness.”
We all need a little positivity, agreed another: “So nice to read something positive for a change. Nice people do exist. Someone did similar for me in a service station line paying for petrol once, I will never forget it and always pay it forward when I can.”
Hopefully Helen’s story will inspire others to spread a little kindness too.
