Season four of Ozark landed last week and is proving to be as tense as ever, as the Byrdes get even deeper into a web of crime, money-laundering and massive family stresses. But what will become of them when the second half of the season drops?
Showrunner Chris Munday has given some hints about what is in store for Marty and Wendy as the Netflix series draws to a conclusion. Don’t worry if you haven’t finished the first half of season four yet, we’re not going to give away any big spoilers about this season here.
Thus far, life for Marty and Wendy Byrde, played by Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, has been something of a rollercoaster since they found themselves in a sticky situation with seriously some bad people right at the start of season one.
Now, they are very much in the pocket of a drug cartel, and somehow have to come up with a deal with the FBI, all the while trying to stay alive and deal with all manner of issues with at least one of their kids.
Showrunner Chris Munday has suggested that the final seven episodes of the series will focus even more strongly on Marty and Wendy, and what will come of their relationship.
The Ozark boss told Entertainment Weekly: “The final tease really comes down to Marty and Wendy. We usually frame everything through the marriage, as much as Ruth is this gigantic part of the show, obviously.”
He added: “For the Byrdes, at a certain point the final seven to me are about, at what time is it healthy to stay in, and at what time is it healthy to get out, in terms of that partnership? And so, to me, I really think the back seven is pretty intensely about marriage and family.”
If you’ve already binged your way through part one of season four, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the remaining episodes have been filmed and are good to go. However, the bad news is that there is no imminent release date for part two. It is expected that they will land sometime later this year.
Meanwhile, season 4 of Ozark has caused some pretty wild fan theories about Jason Bateman's character. Read all about it here.
If you haven't watch Ozark yet, you can catch up with seasons 1-4 (part one) on Netflix now.
