With fans patiently waiting for the second season of The Last of Us, its director has taken to social media to give an update.

Director Neil Druckmann has shared a post on Instagram and revealed that his time filming in Vancouver has officially wrapped.

He wrote: “Can’t wait for y’all to see what we’re cooking!”

The writer, director and executive producer posted an image of a clapperboard used on set, alongside the broken watch worn by Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel.

He wrote: “My time in Vancouver has come to an end. I’ve had a wonderful time collaborating with some incredibly talented and kind cast and crew. Can’t wait for y’all to see what we’re cooking!

“And thanks to production for the best parting gift ever. Easily my favourite watch in my collection!”

Season two of the video game adaptation will pick up from the events in the first instalment, during which Joel and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) journeyed across a post apocalyptic USA after an unknown infection swept the globe and turned people into feral, zombie-like beings.

The narrative will take place four years later, with the two main characters returning and, earlier this year, showrunners Druckmann and Craig Mazin made an announcement regarding who will play another of the key characters.

The role of Abby Anderson (who is integral in the video game) will be taken by Golden Globe Award nominee Kaitlyn Dever.

Denver is known for her role in 2019 teen comedy Booksmart, and she earned Golden Globe Award nominations for her performances in Unbelievable and Dopesick.

Taking to Instagram to react to the announcement, the actor wrote: "So excited to join the family ❤️".

The new cast will also feature Schitt's Creek's Catherine O'Hara, Spencer Lord from Riverdale, Top Gun: Maverick's Danny Ramirez and Tati Gabrielle from You.

Ariela Barer, Young Mazino, Jeffrey Wright and Isabela Merced are also in the cast.

The Last of Us season one is available to watch on Sky on Demand and NOW.
