Happy Valley’s James Norton is teaming up with Love Actually’s Bill Nighy and Thomasin McKenzie from Last Night in Soho for a new Netflix movie.
And to give us an idea of what to expect, the first trailer for the film, called Joy, has just landed.
The narrative focuses on the true story of Louise Joy Brown, who was the first person to be born through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). She was born at Oldham General Hospital in 1978.
In the film - which is set in the 1960s and 1970s - Norton plays scientist Robert Edwards, while Nighy plays surgeon Patrick Steptoe and Kiwi actor McKenzie plays embryologist Jean Purdy. In their ten-year journey to create the world’s first “test tube” baby, the three British pioneers deal with various technical and practical problems, as well as opposition from the church, state, media and medical establishment, who don't agree with what they are doing.
“What we’re doing, it matters,” Nighy’s character says in the trailer, which was released today (18th March).
