Fatboy Slim delighted fans by referencing Derry Girls during his latest show.

Recalling the penultimate episode of the popular sitcom’s final season in which a Fatboy Slim concert played an important role, the DJ brought out stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell to dance on stage at a recent concert.

The actors joined Fatboy Slim on stage at the Unit 8 Warehouse in Londonderry on Saturday night (21st October).

Celebrating the reference on X (formerly Twitter) the DJ captioned a video of the moment: “Life imitates art as the Derry girls join me onstage, in Derry.’

Meanwhile, the event’s organisers Jika Jika said the evening was “iconic” before thanking everyone for their support.

“Fantastic night!” commented one fan in reply to Fatboy Slim’s message. Another fan who sadly missed out wrote: “I would have loved to be there!”

The show reference was even more fitting as it took place a week before Halloween. In the popular Channel 4 show, the Fatboy Slim concert which the four girls and ‘wee English fella’ James wanted to attend was also a Halloween party (see the clip below).

Derry Girls came to an end in 2022 after three seasons. The show started airing in 2018, and became an incredibly popular black comedy hit focused on life growing up in Derry in the final years of the Troubles.

As well as Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell who played Erin and Michelle respectively, the cast also starred Louisa Harland as Orla, Nicola Coughlan as Clare, and Dylan Llewellyn as James.

Derry Girls is not expected to make a return to screen after its creator and writer Lisa McGee brought it to a fitting close last year.

However, its stars can be next in a host of new shows and films including Bridgerton (Coughlan), Beyond Paradise (Llewellyn) and the prison drama Screw (O’Donnell).
