If you're the sort of person who watches horror films from behind a cushion, you'll hate The Midnight Club.

Fellow scaredy-cats, this is one Netflix series to avoid.

It's been confirmed that The Midnight Club has broken records for the number of jump scares in the first episode alone.

A brand new Netflix show has just broken the world record for the most jump scares in a single episode.

It has been presented with the Guinness World Record thanks to the number of scary moments.

It should come as no surprise that it's truly terrifying, as the show has been made by Mike Flanagan.

He is responsible for for The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and 2021’s Midnight Mass.

He also directed the films Hush and Doctor Sleep.

The Midnight Club tells the story of a group of terminally ill teenagers at Brightcliffe Hospice.

They meet up nightly at midnight to tell each other scary stories and have a pact that the first of them to die has to send a message from the other side.

The achievement is made even funnier when you consider Flanagan has also been strongly anti-jump scare in the past.

“My whole career I completely s*** on jump scares as a concept, and I wanted to make sure it was pinned to me, too, as much as it is to the show, to Netflix, and all of us who have inflicted this on everyone,” Flanagan told Deadline.

“Now, I have my name in the Guinness Book of World Records for jump scares, which means next time I get the note, I can say, ‘You know, as the current world record holder for jump scares, I don’t think we need one here.’

The series has been adapted from Christopher Pike’s novel of the same name.

The Midnight Club is on Netflix now.
