Time to head back to the cell doors on C Wing!
Channel 4 have just confirmed prison drama Screw is coming back for series two, and are promising the show is bigger, bolder and more dangerous than ever.
Series two will follow the tragic events of the series one finale, when the team of prison officers, led by Leigh Henry (Nina Sosanya), are determined to make a fresh start.
According to Channel 4, the changes made at the very top of the chain, and the fresh faces that come with it, will test the new bond between Leigh and Rose, played by Derry Girls star Jamie-Lee O’Donnell.
Faraz Ayub, Stephen Wight, Ron Donachie, and Laura Checkley will also be making a comeback to the wings of Long Marsh.
Caroline Hollick, Head of Channel 4 Drama said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to welcome back the staff and prisoners of C Wing. Rob has created an iconic Channel 4 prison series with a fantastic cast and we can’t wait to jump back into the drama, humanity and humour of life behind bars in series two.”
Writer, creator and executive producer of Screw, Rob Williams, added: “I’m absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to dig deeper into the complicated characters on C Wing - we have a lot more stories to tell - and to continue working with the incredible team at Channel 4.”
While Channel 4 have yet to announce when Screw series 2 will hit screens, the episodes will be filmed at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.
The exciting series news comes after Jamie revealed she’ll take a deep dive into the real Irish community of Derry for Channel 4.
Jamie, who played mischievous Michelle Mallon on beloved sitcom Derry Girls, is back on the broadcaster for their new documentary, called The Real Derry: Jamie-Lee O’Donnell.
According to The Irish Independent, Jamie will explore her upbringing within the Catholic community and how things have changed since the 1990s, as well as the impact of the Troubles.
Jamie-Lee will return to her high school, with current day students discussing Derry’s regeneration and why many young people still end up leaving the city.
