Doctor Who star says she would be ‘keen’ to return to the show

Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has admitted she would consider reprising her role as Amy Pond if asked.

However, she does have some conditions.

Gillan first appeared in Doctor Who in 2010 and became the trusted companion to Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor along with her onscreen partner Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill).

She left the series in 2012 but made a comeback in the 2013 Christmas special ‘The Time of the Doctor’, which saw Matt Smith regenerate into Peter Capaldi.

This year, the show will be celebrating its 60th anniversary with some very special episodes and Gillan has revealed whether or not she would consider returning to Doctor Who once more.

In a WIRED Autocomplete Interview, the actress answered some of the most Googled questions about her, and one of them was ‘Will Karen Gillan return to Doctor Who?’.

In response, she said: “Never say never.

“If I was asked, I would be really, really interested and keen.”

However, there would be some conditions.

She explained: “It would be really amazing. I would like to do it with Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill if I was gonna go back.”

While answering a different question, the actress also said that she missed being on the show and credited it as launching her career.

She said: "That was the big break of my career. I went from not working very much as an actor to being in a very beloved show in the UK – and I miss it so much, actually."

Gillan is most recently starring in Netflix’s COVID-19 parody The Bubble.  She will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils will premiere on 17 April on BBC One.
