Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield is set to appear in a new true crime thriller alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, and the new trailer suggests that it’s going to be essential viewing.

Under the Banner of Heaven will see Garfield's character, Detective Jeb Pyre, investigating a shocking real-life crime. The show is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer, which details a double murder in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1984.

Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones appears as Brenda Lafferty, a woman brutally murdered along with her 15-month-old child, while Avatar's Sam Worthington is also in the new drama, playing Ron Lafferty.

In the series, which lands in the US in April, Garfield's character’s faith as a Mormon is shaken by the crime, which it appears might be connected to the local church.

The new trailer shows Garfield’s detective emotional at the scene of the crime.

“We aren’t a community that usually locks its doors,” he tells reporters.

Later in the trailer, he says: “The evidence points towards things and to beliefs that I have ever heard whisperings about.”

Suggesting that there is something sinister going on in the local community, he says: “What if this case isn't just a husband who turned against his wife? What if tonight is just the first edge of a bone, finally working its way out of our own desert's floor?”

Along with Garfield, Edgar-Jones and Worthington, Under the Banner of Heaven also stars Billy Howle, Wyatt Russell and Rory Culkin.

The series will premiere on April 28th on Hulu in the US. While Digital Spy reports that it will stream “soon on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland”, there is no concrete date for when we can see it in the UK at this stage.

Hopefully it won't be long after its US premiere, as we are keen to watch this one.
