Is ITV's Alex Beresford swapping morning TV for the stage?

The Good Morning Britain host will make his theatrical debut in the upcoming All Star Musicals, and according to the judging panel, Alex could be the next big star in the West End.

Alex will join Lisa George, Jacqueline Jossa, Michaela Stachan, Colin Salmon and Danny Care to belt out some classic Broadway tunes, from the likes of Les Misérables, 42nd Street and Hamilton.

Theatre legends Elaine Paige, Samantha Barks and Trevor Dion Nicholas will be on the judging panel, while John Barrowman will return as the host for the special.

Samantha and Trevor revealed to Metro how bowled over they were by the presenter during his performance, and tipped him for stage success, should he ever want to hand in his notice to GMB.

Trevor told the publication: “There’s a unique quality in him that already made him so engaging on Good Morning Britain, and that’s that intangible star quality.”

“In my overall experience with All Star Musicals, I think he’s one of the ones, where if he wanted to, he could end up in the theatre industry. He’s a very talented, wonderful human being, it was wonderful to work with him.”

Alex will hit the stage to perform a number from historical musical Hamilton, and while not giving too much away, Alex admitted he was nervous about taking on something so beloved by musical fans.

He said: “They came with a couple of songs that they wanted me to try, and they came with one particular one. I had second thoughts about doing the show, because you don’t want to go onstage and look stupid. Once I got over the shock that it’s that song, from that musical which is one of the most popular songs, I kind of got to grips with it.”

Former Springwatch presenter Michaela was just excited to try out something new. She added: “As a wildlife presenter, I don’t often get the chance to swap the walking boots and outdoor gear for something sparkly! I’m attempting to do something I haven’t done for over 30 years, spoiler alert, it’s not the can can!”

All Stars Musicals will premiere on Sunday April 3 on ITV and ITV Hub.
