Props used in Netflix series The Crown have been stolen

Netflix confirmed that several valuable props have been taken from the set of The Crown.

The items are thought to be worth as much as £150,000 (€180,200).

They were reportedly stolen overnight on Wednesday, and following the theft a police investigation is underway.

According to The Sun, the incident took place near Doncaster.

The theft happened during the final week of production for the show.

The PA news agency contacted Netflix to confirm the reports, and a spokesperson for the streaming service confirmed it was true, but added no comment.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the show, with the fifth series due to air later this year.

The latest instalment will feature a new cast as the show starts to portray the Royals in the late 1990s.

Playing the Queen will be legendary actress Imelda Staunton, who is taking over the role from Olivia Colman.

Meanwhile, Lesley Manville will portray Princess Margaret.

For the much-loved Princess Diana, fans will welcome Elizabeth Debicki, taking over the role from Emma Corrin.

The new series is set to dramatise Diana's infamous 1995 interview with Martin Bashir.

The writer of the show, Peter Morgan has confirmed there will be a sixth and final series still to come.

Photos were captured at the set, showing that a night at the Royal Variety Performance 1995 will be featured.

 The Colosseum Theatre in London was dressed up as the Dominion Theatre, with banners for the event.

The Queen and Prince Philip’s all-black Rolls Royce was also featured.
