After taking a short break, Casualty is set to return to our screens with a Christmas Special this year.

The BBC One medical drama confirmed it would be back for a festive episode in Decemeber with a teaser trailer at the end of the finale on Saturday night (7th September) and promised fans it would be “format breaking”.

Other than that, not much has been revealed about the plot of the Christmas special but a press release has hinted that it will “celebrate the gift of giving and will be told in an innovative, format-breaking way.”

On the flip side, there was a romance in the air as Dylan finally took his chance at Sophia’s leaving do to confess his feelings for her. Of course, Sophia revealed she felt the same and the episode ended with them sharing a kiss.

As prevooisly mentioned, there have been rumours that a Call the Midwife star would be joining the Casualty cast for the upcoming season.

Olly Rix, who played Matthew Aylward in the BBC series, left fans heartbroken when his character ended up moving to New York. However, it looks like he’s swapping midwifery for medical emergencies in the modern day instead.

Details are still under wraps, but he's set to play a surgeon, promising plenty of intense medical drama and maybe even a bit of romantic intrigue.
