Marvel's Robert Downey Jr and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight are joining forces and collaborating on a new version of Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 thriller Vertigo.

According to Deadline, Iron Man has the lead role of John 'Scottie' Ferguson in his sights and is keen to play the retired police detective who 'has an intense fear of heights and vertigo' after a work incident. After retiring, an old friend hires Scottie to follow his wife, as her 'erratic behaviour is causing concern'.

Paramount+ is thought to have acquired the rights to the psychological thriller, while Peaky Blinders writer Knight has been tapped up to write the script. Based on Boileau-Narcejac's novel D'entre les morts (From Among the Dead), Davis Entertainment's John Davis and John Fox will produce, alongside Robert and Susan Downey.

It's thought the Hitchcock Estate want original film producers Paramount to be in charge of the remake.

Downey Jr is currently working on spy-based movie, A24's The Sympathizer, set during the Vietnam War and can soon be seen in Christopher Nolan's historical drama Oppenheimer, starring as head of the United States Atomic Energy Commission, Lewis Strauss.

Knight is writing the screenplay for an untitled Star Wars movie, an upcoming Peaky Blinders film and new Disney+ boxing series A Thousand Blows with Stephen Graham.
