And they're playing a very special gig for us that you can attend!
Twenty-nine years after their classic self-titled debut spun the music scene on their head, Britpop survivors Suede are enjoying an Indian Summer in 2022.
New album Autofiction, their ninth, has been one of the most acclaimed records of the year, and singer Brett Anderson popped into The Graham Norton Radio Show this weekend to say how much he's enjoying this era of the band.
"We've had lots of highs and lows," he says of a band who looked doomed when guitarist and co-songwriter Bernard Butler left the group in 1994, "and we happen to be going through a high at the moment, so we're just enjoying it really."
He continued, "We've always just stuck at it. We've always done what we do, and not really worried about what's going on around us. And sometimes people like it, and some people like it less. And at the moment people like it, which is great. We love writing. We love making new albums. I've always been slightly wary of kind of bands of our age that just do nostalgia stuff. I've never wanted to do that. Writing new songs has always been where it's at."
Brett is right and is wrong. Because where it's really going to be at is at our studios, late afternoon on Wednesday December 7th, 2022 at the Top Of The Tower, here at The News Building in London (next to The Shard), where the band are going to be performing a Sunset Sessions to around 100 lucky competition winners. Here's details of how you can join them.
"We're playing a lot of songs from the new album live at the moment," says the singer on what fans can expect, "so there'll be some of that and we'll chuck in a couple of old tunes as well. I think it's good to look at both, you know. I think you can learn from your old songs and you can learn from the new songs, and I like to blend them together. We're really proud of all of our back catalogue. I think there's some good songs there!"
Brett is right about that. So what are you waiting for! Enter here!
