Ronan Keating has a new album, inspired by his favourite songs over lockdown.

He proved to be the king of multi-tasking by telling the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky all about it, while doing a radio show himself.

Chris congratulated Ronan on his new single, saying how fantastic it is, and Ronan explained what the new record was about: “I'm excited about the record. It's out on Friday, called Songs From Home and I've chosen 12 songs that I grew up listening to.”

“They kind of moulded me and brought me to where I am right now. Very important songs in my life,” he explained.

Chris was broadcasting at home from his bedroom as he was self-isolating, and asked Ronan about where he recorded his album: “Mostly at home, a lot of vocals were done from the house!”

“Some were in the studio, but a lot of it was at home. As you know, over the last 18 months, it's what we've all had to do, so I did a lot of the vocals and sent them down the line.”

He gave Chris some tips for recording at home: Blankets over your head! You look ridiculous, but I mean, it's comfy, it's cosy.”

He joked: “I can imagine you right now in your pyjamas under a blanket!”

Chris said he had a special thank you for Ronan, as “Ronan Keating is responsible for me being in this house with my wife Natasha and four children because he introduced me to my wife 17 years ago now!”

Ronan explained more about the song choices for his album: “They're big classic Irish songs that everybody will know and love.”

“I just tried to make it my own over the last year and a half, as a lot of us were apart from loved ones and family and friends,” he continued.

“I think music is like the bridge that kind of keeps us connected to important people in our lives and the songs that I listened to over the last year and a half made me feel like I was home in Ireland.”

The album includes one song that Ronan has written, plus covers including U2’s ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’ and Damien Rice ‘The Blower’s Daughter’.

Chris tried to persuade Ronan to perform at Carfest North next year after a stellar performance at the south date, but you’ll have to watch this space.
