The meeting came by chance this weekend.

John Lennon 's oldest son Julian looked chuffed to bump into his dad's former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney.

The pair bumped into each other in an airport lounge on Saturday (November 12th), prompting the 59-year old Julian to whip out his phone and take a selfie with 80-year-old Macca.

Julian is the son of John and his first wife, Cynthia, and he is named after his paternal grandmother, Julia Lennon. He inspired Hey Jude.

Julian was just 17 when his father was murdered on December 8th, 1980, and often had a difficult relationship with Lennon Snr.

"I've never really wanted to know the truth about how dad was with me. There was some very negative stuff talked about me... like when he said I'd come out of a whiskey bottle on a Saturday night. Stuff like that," he once said. "You think, where's the love in that? Paul and I used to hang about quite a bit ... more than Dad and I did. We had a great friendship going and there seems to be far more pictures of me and Paul playing together at that age than there are pictures of me and my dad".

After bumping into Paul in the airport, Julian took to his Twitter account, saying, "It’s Amazing who you run into in an airport Lounge! None other than Uncle Paul…. So, so lovely, and what are the chances… Thankful…."

Julian recently appeared on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show With Sky where he talked about taking ownership of his life, and changing his name from 'John' - which he was born as - to 'Julian', the name everyone calls him.

“I've had issues with security and airports, and people making comments about that. After 40 years of it, I was literally sick and tired of being the second John. I wanted to be me," he told Chris.

“Everybody since year dot, mum and dad included, called me Julian, or Jules. So in 2020, I just said I want to be me, I'm finally done with this. So by deed poll, I went and changed my name to Julian Charles John Lennon, putting myself first for the first time ever, and being me for the first time ever."
