Ringo Starr is hitting pause on performing after coming down with COVID.

The Beatles icon has announced he’s cancelling some of his solo tour dates in North America after contracting the virus.

Ringo had to stop his shows in Michigan and Minnesota over the weekend, and then cancelled five more shows in Canada.

In a statement on the musician's website, his team confirmed: “Ringo has Covid and the tour will be on hold while (he) recuperates.

“Ringo hopes to resume as soon as possible and is recovering at home. As always, he and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans, and hope to see them back out on the road soon.”

Fans in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Abbotsford and Penticton will be let down by the cancellations, but Ringo’s team have said people with tickets will be kept updated.

The Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band tour is set to resume on 11th October in Seattle.

When he recovers, the legendary drummer will be back on the road promoting his brand new EP, which boasts four brand new tracks.

Called EP3, the new record was created at the star's Roccabella West studio in LA, where he also recorded his recent EPs, Change The World and Zoom In.

Ringo’s longtime collaborators Steve Lukather, Linda Perry, Dave Koz, José Antonio Rodriguez, and Bruce Sugar, joined him to put the songs together.

The press release for the new EP says that the songs span “pop, country, reggae and rock and roll.”

The new songs are titled: World Go Round / Everyone and Everything / Let's Be Friends / Free Your Soul (feat. Dave Koz and José Antonio Rodriguez).

Get well soon Ringo!
