To celebrate 50 years of his stellar career, Billy Joel is bringing back one of the most memorable concert films ever.

Billy Joel: Live At Yankee Stadium will be released in cinemas for a special two-night global fan event on 5th and 9th October.

The new version of the 1990 concert will include a never-before-released performance of Uptown Girl, as well as interviews with the beloved musician, and behind-the-scenes footage from the event itself.

The hit-filled set list also includes Piano Man, We Didn’t Start The Fire, New York State Of Mind, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant and Shout.

Trafalgar Releasing are distributing the film, and their CEO, Marc Allenby said in a statement: “We’re pleased to partner again with Sony Music Entertainment to bring another classic rock’n’roll concert to the big screen.

“This re-edited concert is going to have fans of Billy Joel dancing in their seats in movie theatres worldwide.”

Tom Mackay, President, Premium Content, Sony Music Entertainment added: “As a native New Yorker, Billy Joel’s iconic performance at Yankee Stadium is a perfect combination for audiences. We are excited to give fans the opportunity to watch this sold-out concert and rock out to the legend’s greatest hits.”

Having sold 160 million records over the past quarter century, Billy has lots to celebrate. He has scored 33 consecutive Top 40 hits, and is also the recipient of 23 Grammy nominations and six awards overall, including the prestigious Grammy Legend Award.

Joel is in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, and placed his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2004.

It comes after the life of George Michael was celebrated with his own global cinematic release of George Michael: Freedom Uncut earlier this year.

The documentary marked George’s final project before his tragic death in 2016, with the musician narrating the deeply personal autobiographical feature.

Throughout the film, fans we given an insight into the parts of Michael’s life: his very public music career and his private personal life that was never really captured by the cameras.

Billy Joel: Live at Yankee Stadium will hit cinemas worldwide on 5th and 9th October.
