As if we weren’t already looking forward to the upcoming long weekend, there’s now another reason to get excited, as Red Hot Chili Peppers are dropping a song on Friday.

The track, called Nerve Flip, has thus far only featured as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of the band’s latest album, Unlimited Love, but will be made available globally on all the usual streaming services this Friday June 3rd.

RHCP announced the release on their social media platforms, and gave fans a taste of what to expect by sharing a 25-second clip of the track.

You can have a listen below:

Fans gleefully greeted news of the release on social media. One wrote: “Oh my god! One more song in this perfect album!?”

Another commented: “That song rocks.”

Someone else wrote: “I dig it.”

RHCP’s current album, Unlimited Love, is their 12th, and their first since legendary guitarist John Frusciante returned to the band. The last Chili’s record he previously worked on was 2006’s Stadium Arcadium.

And Unlimited Love’s performance has proved that the band are just as popular as ever. It shot to the top of the Billboard 200 chart in the US, and also went to number one in the UK albums chart. It has done the same in various countries across the globe.

This week is proving to be quite a big one for bassist Flea. Not only is a new RHCP song landing in a couple of days, but he also appeared in the new Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. He plays Vect Nokru, an altogether bad dude who (spoiler alert) kidnaps a young Princess Leia in order to lure Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) out of hiding.
