The 2022 Billboard Music Awards took place on Sunday night, with Ed Sheeran and The Rolling Stones among the winners.

At a star-studded ceremony in Las Vegas last night (15th May), the UK was well represented, with Sheeran and The Stones joined by Oxford indie rockers Glass Animals in collecting awards.

Ed Sheeran picked up the gong for Top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.), beating fellow Brit Dua Lipa to the prize, as well as BTS, Olivia Rodrigo and The Weeknd.

The Rolling Stones won the award for Top Tour, beating some impressive competition which included The Eagles, Genesis, Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer, and Harry Styles.

The Stones recently dropped a brand new live album, called Live at the El Mocambo, which was recorded all the way back in 1997. The record features live versions of Tumbling Dice and Hot Stuff that have never been released before.

Elsewhere at the fancy 2022 Billboard Music Awards ceremony, which was hosted by Sean 'Diddy' Combs at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Glass Animals took out the prize for Top Rock Artist. The win caused lead singer Bayley to joke that they are: “the least rock and roll people in the world”.

Away from the UK winners, it was a good night for Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and Drake. Olivia Rodrigo won a whopping seven awards, including Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album. She beat Adele in the latter two categories.

Drake impressively won Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist and the Top Rap Album awards, while Taylor Swift’s awards included Top Country Artist, Top Country Female Artist and Top Country Album.

Meanwhile, Mary J. Blige was awarded the Icon Award, and K-Pop group BTS broke Destiny’s Child record for most overall wins. Their three gongs last night brings their total up to 12 overall since 2017, which puts them one ahead of Destiny’s Child.
