This year, the nation's determined not to hear the dreaded words 'nul points' and singer Sam Ryder is flying the ever-hopeful flag for the Eurovision.

Sam Ryder and his offering Space Man is now second favourite with the bookies to win just behind Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra.

Our Graham Norton is leading the Eurovision proceedings this weekend.

He said: “Sam Ryder is a star. I honestly think he is our best hope for years.

“He has been getting a great response around Europe as he promotes Space Man, so fingers crossed for some points this year.”

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show With Waitrose, former winner Katrina Leskanich shared her memories with our very own Eurovision megafan.

"I was 100% sure that we were going to win. But I kept having people in my ear saying, 'haven't you heard of the political voting?' But I think we won because of political voting. It was 1997. It was Britpop and Oasis, 'Things can only get better', Tony Blair was coming into power.

"There were all these kind of feel good associations with the UK and I think people had a really good feeling about us. It was requested that I try and tone down my American accent though, by the BBC!"

TV presenter AJ Odudu is this year's Eurovision Spokesperson and will deliver the UK results live from Salford for the first time ever.

The grand final in Italy's Turin will be broadcast live on BBC1 from 8pm on Saturday.
