The legendary David Bowie will be honoured in a new stage show at the National Space Centre later this month with four out of this world shows.
Titled Bowie: Oddity To Mars, the shows will feature a live performance from the five-piece tribute band David Live (named after Bowie’s 1974 live album) and where better to hold an event for the Starman than a planetarium?
The show will also include projections of footage provided by NASA and an additional visual element developed by the Space Centre’s own in-house team.
Footage from NASA will show a 360-degree projection taken during the journey of Apollo 17, which had its final mission to Mars in 1972. The show will celebrate the era of Bowie’s career that coincided with that Apollo program beginning with the 1969 self-titled record and ending with The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year).

The show will take place on Friday 20 May and Saturday 21 at the Space Centre’s Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium, which is the largest of its kind in the UK. Two shows will be held every evening, and tickets are currently on sale on the Space Centre’s website.
In a press statement, Malika Andress – head of marketing for the National Space Centre – said: “It is really fitting this hit show is our first big evening event, following the pandemic. David Live are phenomenal, bringing the music of David Bowie to life in our planetarium alongside stunning visuals created by our in-house team.”
This comes after it was announced one of Bowie’s most celebrated albums, The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, will be getting a special 50th anniversary re-release.
The album will be celebrating its landmark birthday in June this year, and the 1972 album will be reissued via Parlophone records as two limited edition vinyl’s, along with a replica promotional poster for the album.
In other Bowie news, a new film called Moonage Daydream about the singer is on its way and will include a whole bunch of previously unreleased footage.
