Royal Blood have postponed their upcoming gigs, with vocalist Mike Kerr telling fans “I currently cannot sing a single note. My voice has gone,” after he tested positive for Covid-19.

The Sussex duo - Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher - had played their scheduled show in London on Wednesday night (March 30th), and were set to be in Leeds this evening (April 1st), but have been forced to pull the remaining dates on their tour. As well as the Leeds gig, they still had shows in Manchester (April 2nd) and Glasgow (April 3rd). The two-piece were then supposed to be performing in Dublin (April 5th) and Paris (April 7th).

The band broke the bad news on social media, with Kerr explaining: “I’m heartbroken to write this, but despite being fully protected and taking precautions, I have tested positive for COVID following last night’s show at The O2.”

The statement continued: “This morning I’ve woken up to discover I have lost my voice. Unfortunately, this isn’t something I can ‘power through’, I currently cannot sing a single note. My voice has gone."

Expressing his disappointment at having to postpone the rest of the tour, Kerr wrote: “I’m absolutely gutted. We were having the time of our lives up there, and your support and passion is not taken for granted for one second.

“I’m so sorry to advise that I cannot continue the tour and want to apologise for the huge disappointment and inconvenience this will cause you all.”

However, the good news for disappointed fans is that the postponed shows are going to go ahead at some point, with the band saying: “We will work as hard as we can to reschedule the shows for as soon as possible.”

The tweet also advised fans that “all tickets will remain valid for any rescheduled dates,” and a separate tweet said that the band’s April/May North American tour “is unaffected”.

Get well soon, Mike.
