Pink Floyd are celebrating the fact that their seminal album, The Dark Side Of The Moon, turned 50 this month.
The band's eighth studio album came out in the US on 1st March 1973, and a couple of weeks later in the UK, on 16th March.
To mark the anniversary of one of the best-selling albums of all time, a new deluxe box set is out today. The box set includes a whole bunch of goodies, including CD and gatefold vinyl of the new 2023 remastered studio album and Blu-Ray and DVD audio, featuring the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions. The set also has an additional new Blu-ray disc of Atmos mix, plus a CD and LP of The Dark Side Of The Moon – Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974. A 160-page hardback photo book, a music book, replica 7” singles and memorabilia are also included.
Simultaneously, the CD and first ever vinyl issue of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974 are also released independently, as is the new book, Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon: 50th Anniversary. The book will showcase rare and previously unseen photographs taken during The Dark Side Of The Moon tours of 1972-1975.
The landmark anniversary will also be celebrated with a bunch of events, including a global planetarium album experience. With the help of the latest technology, a show will feature amazing views of the solar system and beyond, played out to 42 minutes of The Dark Side Of The Moon in surround sound. The event will take place across the world, including at Glasgow Science Centre.
The Empire State Building in New York City will be illuminated tonight with the special 50th Anniversary prism spectrum artwork to spin in its mast. The display will kick off at sunset and can be seen throughout New York City, as well as online from the Empire State Building Live Cam.
