Wolf Alice joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky to talk about their brand new album, Blue Weekend, which is out now, and to play an exclusive live session, which included a stunning cover of the Oasis classic, Wonderwall.

Released this Friday (June 4th), Blue Weekend is the London band’s third album, and their first since 2017’s Visions of a Life, which won the Mercury Prize.

When talking about putting the record together during lockdown, lead singer Ellie told Sam Pinkham and Gaby Roslin, who are in for Chris this week, “We were really grateful to have something to be focusing on and occupy our time. We’re really proud of it, and we hope everyone enjoys it.”

During their live session for us, along with their cover of Wonderwall, the band played Last Man on Earth, the first single from Blue Weekend, and Smile, which is the follow-up single. “It’s a slightly different version,” they told us about their performance of Smile.

When speaking to Sam and Gaby, bassist Theo enthused about the view out of the window from their live session. “We’re looking at everything! Anything and everything that is in London, you can see it from here! The Gherkin, The Oxo Tower, The London Eye...”

Theo said it was great to be playing live again, as the country continues to come out of lockdown. “It feels amazing. Hopefully things are getting a little bit closer to when we’re all allowed to be in a room together properly, and festival season might be happening a bit, so we’re buzzing about the future at the moment.”

He added, “We’re headlining Latitude Festival, which I can’t quite believe I’m saying! Friday night I think. Unless I’m wrong?” Upon getting confirmation from his bandmate, guitarist Joff Oddie, that they are indeed playing on the Friday, he said, “I’ve got a thumbs up from Joff. Joff will be there Friday night!”

The band will also be heading out on their own headline tour at the start of 2022. “We’ve got a UK tour booked for January,” Ellie confirmed.

When asked if the band are nervous about the release of Blue Weekend, Ellie simply said, “We’re ready!”
