If you've got an iPhone 14, an exciting upgrade is coming your way in the UK.

The latest update was released on 15 November in the US and it has the potential to save your life.

It's called Emergency SOS via Satellite, and will be coming to the UK and Europe in coming months.

The iPhone feature is designed to give you additional protection while out and about.

We've all known the worry of being somewhere without phone signal, in case you need to call someone for help.

This new update now enables iPhone 14 users to send out emergency signals even when they're out of the reach of cellular networks.

If you try to place an emergency call in the standard way but there isn't enough signal, the new feature will have you covered.

The phone will give you a chance to send an SOS text message.

A list for you to choose from comes up, including Vehicle Issue, Sickness or Injury, Crime, Lost or Trapped, and Fire.

A radar screen appears, and it will then turn green to let you know you location has been confirmed.

It reassures the user that the phone is working correctly and contacting the nearest satellite to get help.

Once the emergency message has been sent, you will be kept updated to let you know when help will arrive.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement: "Some of the most popular places to travel are off the beaten path and simply lack cellular coverage.

"With Emergency SOS via satellite, the iPhone 14 lineup provides an indispensable tool that can get users the help they need while they are off the grid.

"Our teams worked tirelessly to tackle a new set of technical challenges to bring this service to life, in addition to building a reliable on-the-ground infrastructure.

"Emergency SOS via satellite is a breakthrough service available only on the iPhone 14 lineup, and a new innovation that we hope will provide our customers some peace of mind."

Every model in the new iPhone 14 range will contain the feature.
