If you rely on your foundation for sunscreen, you might not be applying anywhere near enough.

Many of us don't apply a separate SPF under our foundation, however a chemist has confirmed make-up alone isn't enough to protect your skin.

If you use a foundation with sun protection included, you could be forgiven for thinking that one to two pumps would be enough to protect your skin.

Wrong!

Michelle Wong is a beauty chemist, and she has shocked people sharing how much foundation you actually need to apply to get the SPF benefits written on the bottle.

She found you need 13 pumps at least.

That's far more foundation than anyone would want to wear.

Michelle normally wears one and half pumps of foundation each day and was surprised by her findings.

Commenters couldn't believe how much was needed.

One person wrote: ‘No way, this is unreal’.

Another said: ‘Oh no, that’s a lot of foundation!’

People asked if this applies to tinted moisturiser too and Michelle confirmed it does.

She said the best thing to do is apply SPF, then a base on top.
