Ready, Sheddy, Go!

With all the doom and gloom happening in the world- here’s a bit of good news.

Cuprinol is back with their Shed of the Year competition for 2022, so get prepared for some show-stopping designs from the nation’s most talented sheddies.

Sheds have kind of had their star moment during the pandemic, with many people using them as a place to congregate with friends and family, build a business or even turn into a makeshift gym.

With this in mind, Cuprinol has promised this year’s competition is shaping up to be one of its most fiercely contested yet.

Hopeful entrants must submit their creations in one of seven categories to be in the chance to win the prize of £1,000 and £11 worth of Cuprinol products.

There will even be a Lockdown category this year, which will recognise all the amazing creations made during those strange months in 2021.

Last year, Danielle Zarb-Cousin walked away with the top prize after winning Cuprinol Shed of the Year 2021.

She left judges astounded by her chic, 70s-inspired Crème de Menthe bar inside her shed that she decorated using vintage and charity shop finds.

Danielle began the project as a way to cope with her heartbreak after splitting from her fiancé, Love Island’s Jonny Mitchell.

Talking about the award, she said: “Winning Shed of the Year felt amazing! The shed became a real focus for me during a turbulent time in my life and during the first lockdown when there wasn't much to do.

“It also showed me that I can do anything I put my mind to, so I am really proud of myself, and I'm so pleased the judges thought it was worthy of the winning title.

“During lockdown, I think it was really important for us to create spaces in our homes or gardens that gave us the opportunity to escape, unwind and relax and the shed gave me a place to sit and write my blog and to just get away from all the madness going on in the world.

“It has also shown me that I'd like to do more upcycling and bring other old and unloved things back to life, which is probably something I never would have considered doing myself if we hadn't gone into lockdown and if I hadn't completed my shed project.”

If you fancy your chances at this year’s awards, then you need to send at least two photos of your show stopping designs along with an explanation of your inspiration and what makes your shed stand out from the rest.

This year’s categories are:

  • Budget

  • Cabin/Summerhouse

  • Pub & Entertainment

  • Unexpected / Unique

  • Workshop/Studio

  • Nature’s Haven

  • Lockdown

Entries are open now and after a shortlist is drafted by a panel of judges, it will then be open to a public vote to find the shed of 2022.

Category winners are announced in August, and the overall winner will receive a £1,000 cash prize and £100 worth of Cuprinol products.

Entries open on Monday, 21st February, and can be submitted via Shed of The Year | Cuprinol until Tuesday 19th April.
