Steven Tyler's daughter, Mia Tyler, shares emotional journey and musical connection.

Steven Tyler, the iconic frontman of Aerosmith, has recently taken a step back from the limelight to recover from a vocal cord injury and a fractured larynx.

At 75, the rock legend's health concerns prompted the postponement of all Aerosmith tour dates until 2024.

Amid this challenging time, Tyler has found solace and support from his family, including his daughter, Mia Tyler.

Mia Tyler candidly discussed her evolving relationship with her father on her podcast, Bad Bad Babydad, co-hosted with JayDee Milo.

The pair delved into the past, exploring the difficulties they faced when Mia was a teenager, especially after her parents, Steven Tyler and actress Cyrinda Foxe, divorced.

"I…wanted to express to my dad how I felt and I didn't know how to tell him, maybe my coming out of my emotions," Mia shared.

The divorce and its aftermath left her grappling with emotions she found challenging to articulate.

Despite the difficulties, she continued: "I was so scared to tell him that I was depressed and upset in life and maybe he caused it, and him leaving me with [my mom], all that stuff, I didn't know what to do."

In a unique attempt to communicate her feelings without words, Mia decided to share her emotions through music.

She gave her father a copy of the debut self-titled album of the heavy metal band Slipknot, released in 1999.

"I gave it to him, I bought him a copy and said, 'Listen to this. If you want to understand how I feel, just listen to this,'" she recounted.

Despite the gift, months passed before Steven Tyler embraced the musical insight into his daughter's emotions.

Eventually, in a poignant moment, Tyler reached out to Mia after immersing himself in the album.

Mia vividly described the scene: "He calls me sobbing, and he was like, 'I went for a walk down the back…I'm so sorry.'"

Steven Tyler had listened to the entire Slipknot album on a walkman while sitting on a dead log near their Massachusetts home, experiencing an emotional release.

Reflecting on the significance of the album, JayDee characterised it as a 'letter' from Mia to her famous father.

Mia agreed, emphasising how the music provided a channel for her to express the depth of her feelings.

She even shared this story with Corey Taylor, Slipknot's lead singer, expressing how the music helped forge a stronger bond with her father.

Describing the moment with Corey, she said: "You don't know how much you've helped me have a relationship and a bond with my dad.

"And that music is so heavy and such a release because I was so upset and pissed off with life. Listening to that music released that for me."

Amidst Steven Tyler's hiatus from the stage and the uncertainty surrounding Aerosmith's rescheduled tour dates, Mia's recounting of this poignant musical episode highlights the power of music as a conduit for emotional expression and connection within families.

Tyler, in a message to fans in late September, expressed his deep regret at not being able to perform, promising a return as soon as possible.

As the Aerosmith community eagerly awaits their return to the stage, this intimate glimpse into Steven Tyler and Mia's journey adds a layer of humanity to the legendary rocker's life, showcasing the transformative and healing power of music.

The postponed shows have been tentatively rescheduled to begin on January 29, 2024, in Detroit, concluding on February 29 in Cleveland.
