Death in Paradise might have come to an end tonight (Friday 24th February) but luckily for fans, they have much more to look forward to!

*Spoilers for the series 12 finale ahead*

The BBC have confirmed that Death in Paradise will return for not one, but two more series, and will have two Christmas specials to go alongside them.

Series 12 came to an end after DI Neville Parker, played by Ralf Little, discovered his girlfriend Sophie Chambers, played by Chelsea Edge, was the one who framed him for murder in a vicious act of revenge.

Now out from behind bars, while he didn't explicitly state his intention to remain in Saint Marie, it was heavily implied Neville will remain in the Caribbean for another run of cosy crime episodes. In the series finale, Neville makes a phone call to Commissioner Patterson, who appears elated with his news, hinting that he's made a decision to continue on the team.

Speaking in a statement announcing the news, Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, said: “With its sparkling blend of mystery, humour and heart, Death In Paradise continues to delight the millions of us who make the return trip to Saint Marie with every sun-drenched episode.

“It is a programme that goes from strength to strength, and I could not be happier that it will return for another two series and specials on BBC One and iPlayer.”

The BBC also confirmed new episodes of Death in Paradise will air in 2024, and promised to offer “much-needed escapism, compelling whodunnits and perplexing puzzles, keeping viewers on their toes for years to come."

Death in Paradise’s Executive Producer, Tim Key, added: “The response to series 12 has been incredible, so we’re delighted that we’ll be heading back to Guadeloupe for at least two more series!

“We’ve got an amazing and joyful Christmas special in store, and then series 13 begins with our 100th episode, so we’ve got plenty of surprises ready to celebrate that milestone. We’ve got huge plans for the future and can’t wait to get going again”.

While Death in Paradise fans wait another year before series 13 begins, spin-off Beyond Paradise aired its first episode, with Kris Marshall returning as fan-favourite DI Humphrey Goodman.

Series 12 of Death in Paradise is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Beyond Paradise airs Fridays at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
