It’s a big week for Call the Midwife as we look forward to Trixie and Matthew’s wedding in Sunday’s season finale.

However, actress Helen George has hinted the episode might not be as joyous as we hoped.

Speaking to, Helen said the wedding would be “incredibly romantic” but there would also be a “tragedy” in the mix.

She explained: “There’s a lot of romance to it. I do think it’s incredibly romantic. And there are problems along the way. There are teething problems with the wedding.”

Helen revealed viewers will be introduced to Trixie’s brother Geoffrey, who she says is “so much fun” and becomes “the wedding planner” for the big day.

However, she warned: “But of course, it's Call the Midwife, so there's a flip side and there's a downside. There's a tragedy. But there's also a very beautiful pay-off. And I hope people will really enjoy the wedding because we did."

George gave no hints about what this tragedy could involve, so we’ll have to wait and see what Sunday’s episode has in store!

Earlier this week, the actress also spoke about what it was like to film the highly anticipated episode.

She said: “It was a long day. We did go over our schedule by about an hour-and-a-half. But it was also a beautiful day. There was a real sense of occasion. And it was lovely that all the cast got to be together.

“I think it's natural for any woman to want to get it completely right – it's an important day in anyone's life.”

However, filming didn’t go without some issues, and Helen revealed: “We'd been given pizzas, because everyone was starving,” she explained. “And poor Meghan [Cusack, who plays Nancy Corrigan] got grease all over her bridesmaid's dress. That was a drama.”

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One on Sunday 26th February at 9pm with previous episodes available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
