Owen Wilson is back with a new movie called Paint, in which he plays a very familiar-looking character.

In the trailer, which has just landed, the Zoolander star sports a big head of curly hair and a beard, making him resemble iconic US painter and TV host Bob Ross.

Before his death in 1995, Bob Ross was well-known for hosting instructional television program The Joy of Painting in the 80s and 90s. He has remained posthumously famous through a continuing online presence.

Ross isn’t mentioned directly in the new film. Rather, Wilson plays a Ross-inspired character called Carl Nargle, who is Vermont’s premier public TV painter.

The trailer begins with Wilson’s character giving a television painting lesson and sharing words of wisdom. It also suggests he has plenty of adoring female fans. One scene in the new teaser shows one devoted admirer tasting fondue outing directly from the protagonist’s fingers.

It seems that Carl has it all. However, when a younger, better artist comes along, his world is thrown into turmoil. Cue something of a meltdown.

“You’re entitled to your favourite TV show, that’s what makes this country great,” Wilson’s character says.

The movie is directed by Brit McAdams, and also stars Wanderlust’s Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey from Bridesmaids, Stephen Root from Barry, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s Ciara Renée. Lusia Strus and newcomer Lucy Freyer also feature.

This isn’t the only movie that The Royal Tenenbaums actor Wilson is set to appear in soon, He also has a film called Haunted Mansion on the horizon, alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, Jared Leto and Winona Ryder.

In other movie news, Disney has revealed that it is planning some big sequels including Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia.

Paint is set to land in cinemas on 28th April.
