It’s not unusual to want to feel as young and healthy as possible. But, while most of us merely try to do the occasional sit-up and sometimes eat a piece of fruit, one middle-aged man has taken things very much to the next level in order to regain his youth.

Bryan Johnson is a 45-year-old from Venice, California who embarks on a rigorous daily routine which apparently costs him a whopping $2 million a year.

The tech developer’s daily routine, called Project Blueprint, is full-on. It starts at 5am, when he wakes up and takes two dozen supplements, including lycopene, zinc, and metformin, along with a microdose of lithium for his brain.

After that, he works out for an hour (along with a high-intensity exercise three times a week). He drinks green juice with creatine and collagen peptides, and rinses his teeth with tea-tree oil and antioxidant gel.

He then has a green juice drink with added creatine and collagen peptides and flosses his teeth while rinsing with tea-tree oil and antioxidant gel.

During the day, Johnson follows a strict vegan diet of 1,977 calories, which falls below the recommended daily total of 2,500 for a man.

Before he goes to sleep at night, he wears glasses for two hours to block blue light.

This regime sees Johnson’s vital signs being constantly monitored, and he undergoes monthly ultrasounds, MRIs, colonoscopies and blood tests. More than 30 doctors keep an eye on him, and he has daily measurements of his weight, body mass index, body fat, blood glucose levels and heart-rate variations.

But is the project doing any good?

Well, according to Johnson, very much so. He has the skin of a 28-year-old, the heart of a 37-year-old, and - perhaps most impressively of all -  the lung-capacity of an 18-year-old.

Apparently doctors reckon that he has reduced his overall biological age by at least five years.

Writing on YouTube, the tech mogul said: “Blueprint is a public science experiment to determine whether it’s possible to stay the same biological age. This requires slowing down ageing processes as much as possible and then reversing the ageing that has happened.

“Currently my speed of ageing is .76 (DunedinPACE). That means for every 365 days each year, I age 277 days. My goal is to remain the same age biologically for every 365 days that pass.”

He added: “On the surface, Blueprint may seem like something about health, wellness and ageing. To me, it’s a philosophy.”
