The star-studded cast of Inside No.9 series 8 has been revealed.

Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith are back for five more episodes of their critically-acclaimed comedy, which is set to air this spring.

Series 8 will include the likes of Sherlock star Amanda Abbington, EastEnders’ Anita Dobson, People Just Do Nothing actor Asim Chaudhry and Quadrophenia star Phil Daniels.

The bumper list also includes My Mad Fat Diary’s Claire Rushbrook, Uncle Vanya star Frances Barber, and Batman actor Leon Herbert.

Gavin & Stacey star Mathew Horne is also in the line-up, with Menyee Lai, Moyo Akandé, Robin Askwith, Samantha Spiro, Sheila Reid and Ayda Kiiza round out the stellar cast list.

According to the BBC, the episodes will stay true to the show’s hugely popular anthology format, each with a brand new story and characters, with a mix of horror, thriller, drama, comedy and surprising twists.

Creators Shearsmith and Pemberton said in a statement: “We are thrilled to invite viewers inside a new set of funny and frightening number 9s; take your shoes off, make yourself at home and switch your devices to Do Not Disturb. Well it might work…”

Josh Cole, Head of Comedy, BBC Studios, added: “We’re thrilled to be making a new series of Inside No. 9 with the unassailable Reece and Steve, and look forward to delighting and upsetting viewers in equal measure.”

Since it first hit our screens in 2014, Inside No.9 has won massive plaudits from critics and from fans, picking up the Best Scripted Comedy at the 2021 BAFTA TV Awards and Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme at the 2019 BAFTA TV Awards won by Pemberton.

Shearsmith previously told that he’s hoping for more “surprising, interesting and shocking, horrible funny stories” when series 8 lands, but also confessed it may be heading to the theatre soon too.

During the red carpet for See How They Run premiere in September, he shared:  “Steve and I've been talking quite seriously about doing that because I think they are suited for theatre. I mean, they're all little one-act plays. So if we could do that, that'd be great. We're going to set time aside to do it. I think we'll get the next series out of the way and then maybe do the theatre version.”

All previous episodes of Inside No. 9 are available to watch now on BBC iPlayer and series eight will premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in Spring 2023.
