Good news from Egypt as a new pyramid is erected in time for the COP27 summit, it’s magnificent, the size of a three story building and made entirely from plastic rescued from the river Nile.

This twenty ton megalith is located just outside Cairo and built in a week to highlight the shocking amount of plastic in the river that’s headed for the sea. It was the brainchild of two organisations, a zero waste company called Zero Co and a wine brand called The Hidden Sea who collect ten pieces of thrown away plastic from the Nile for every bottle they sell. Together they’re using this whopper of a structure to launch the 100 Year Cleanup project, to inspire businesses and people to take direct action and clean up their rivers every day for the next 100 years. They aim to raise a million dollars over the next year and take out 15 million water bottles from the Nile, then build full time teams in South East Asia, a huge problem area for plastic bottles, to clean rivers for the next century.

Inspiring news from the USA as a community bond together to make 10,000 sandwiches for the needy, in one day!

Say howdy to the 200 volunteers of Greenville South Carolina, who got together to honour the legacy of historical local resident and inspiration, Eugenia Duke, who famously made 10,000 sandwiches in one day to support American soldiers in WW1.

Her cheese bacon and mayonnaise sandwiches became so popular that soldiers started asking for jars of her homemade mayo and so Duke’s mayonnaise was born, and still on the shelves over 100 years later.

The 200 volunteers were supported by meals on wheels and other charities, food banks and support services for the vulnerable who distributed the sandwiches to those who needed them most. They followed the hundred year old recipe to the letter: They followed the original recipe of Eugenia’s BPT (Bacon, Pimento Cheese, and Tomato Sandwich) 2 cups shredded extra mature cheddar cheese; 1 cup shredded normal cheddar cheese; 1/3 cup mayonnaise; ¼ cup diced tomatoes, ¼ cup diced sweet red peppers; and ¼ cup bacon bits. That actually sounds great, I might try that with vegan bacon!
