Ever since it was announced that we would be getting a second Joker movie, fans have been eagerly waiting for any updates on when filming would begin.

Now, cinematographer Lawrence Sher has revealed that production will start in five or six weeks time - way earlier than expected.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter promoting his latest film Black Adam, on which he served as director of photography, Sher revealed filming will begin very soon in locations such as Los Angeles and New York.

Todd Phillip’s first Joker movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix was a huge hit with audiences and critics alike, and earned Phoenix an Oscar for best actor.

Joker: Folie à Deux will be a musical and also stars Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn- the Joker’s love interest previously played by Margot Robbie in the DC movies.

Sher also spoke about Gaga’s involvement in the new film and said: “She’s going to be a really cool fit for this movie and will create a similar kind of magic that Joaquin brought by himself,” Sher said.

“The combination of the two will be exactly what we hope, which is exciting, and we’ll find magic every day on set. Hopefully, we’ll also have a bit of madness in there. We like when there is a little bit of chaos.”

When it premiered in 2019, Joker was a huge commercial success grossing over $1 billion worldwide and bagging 11 Oscar nominations, two of which it won for best original score and best actor.

Fans had been hoping for a sequel and were delighted when Phillips confirmed there would be a second Joker film after posting a photo of the title page of the film’s script and title. As reported by Deadline, a release date has also been confirmed as 4th October 2024.
