Daniel Craig has been awarded with the same honour as his character James Bond by Princess Anne at Windsor Castle.

The actor, who has played Bond in five installments of the 007 series, received The Order of St Michael and St George medals - the same honour held by the fictional spy- in recognition of his “outstanding contribution to film and theatre.”

In the pictures released by the Royal Family, Craig can be seen smiling with pride as the Princess Royal places the medals around his neck during the ceremony which took place at Windsor Castle on Tuesday morning (18th October).

Princess Anne was representing King Charles III and wore her military uniform.

The Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) was originally founded in 1818 by King George IV when he was the Prince Regent and it is the sixth-most senior title in the British honours system.

Typically, men and women in high office or who have contributed extraordinary or important non-military service for the UK in a foreign country are awarded the honour, but it can also be given to individuals who have carried out loyal or important service in relation to foreign or commonwealth affairs.

It was announced Daniel Craig would be receiving a CMG at the end of 2021 and was included in the Queen’s annual New Year Honours list.

Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson were also among the names on the list and will be honoured with their own award at some point this year.

This comes as Craig prepares to step down from his role as James Bond, and there are many rumours about who could be replacing him.

Producers of the 007 films have teased they want to “surprise” fans with a “refreshed” approach to the spy and have previously stated the next movie will be “a reinvention of bond”.

Barbara Broccoli: “We’re working out where to go with him, we're talking that through. There isn’t a script, and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond.”
