We’re creeping slowly into half term season already, and with the Oscar race heating up, there are some seriously big names heading to a big screen near you.

We’ve got big budget comic book movies, true stories, horror and family fun, with the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Christian Bale and Steve Coogan starring in some of this month’s new flicks.

Here are the movies hitting the cinema in October 2022:

The Woman King - 4th October

Oscar winner Viola Davis stars in The Woman King - the real-life story behind the Agojie, the all-women band of warriors of Dahomey in West Africa in the 1800s.

Davis plays General Nanisca, who trains the next generation of fighters to prepare them against an incoming enemy, who is determined to overthrow their regime and destroy their way of life.

The Woman King also stars Bond actress Lashana Lynch and Star Wars’ John Boyega.

Amsterdam - 7th October

Margot Robbie, Christian Bale and John David Washington star in crime drama Amsterdam, and there is a plethora of famous faces acting alongside the trio.

The likes of Taylor Swift, Robert Deniro and Chris Rock are just a handful of the names hitting the big screen, in which Bale, Robbie and Washington play a ragtag team of friends who accidentally find themselves at the heart of one of the most secret plots in American history.

Bale spoke to virginradio.co.uk at the UK premiere of Amsterdam about singing alongside Swift in the movie, to which he replied: “There was another scene and I ended up singing next to Taylor Swift. So that was awful for her, but wonderful for me!”

The Lost King - 7th October

From one true story to another, Sally Hawkins joins forces with Steve Coogan in The Lost King.

The comedy-drama focuses on the discovery of King Richard III’s remains in 2012 and the monumental role of Philippa Langley, played by Hawkins, in the Looking For Richard project.

It was because of Philippa’s determination and use of maps and fixed points methods that the remains were found under a car park in Leicester ten years ago.

Steve recently told virginradio.co.uk all about why he wanted to put the “irresistible” story onto the big screen, and why Sally was always the first choice to play the courageous Philippa.

Nothing Compares - 7th October
