Crowds have been flocking to Westminster Hall to see the Queen lying in state, with queues varying between five to eight hours long.
Now, a live tracker on YouTube shows how long the line to see Her Majesty’s coffin is so Royal fans will have an idea of the waiting time before they set off.
Yesterday (14th September) the queue reached 2.5 miles in length according to the tracker, created by The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, with an accompanying map showing it stretched from Westminster all the way back to Borough Market.
Currently the queue is approximately 3.5 miles long and is stretching back towards Tower Bridge.
It is estimated the queue will get even longer over the next few days with wait times as long as 30 hours. Officials have also anticipated around one million visitors will file past the Queen’s coffin over the next few days and have installed barriers and portable toilets around Westminster for mourners to use as they wait.
Mourners in the queue have also been asked not to save places for other people and camping or leaving personal items behind has been prohibited.
Westminster Hall will be open 24 hours a day for visitors until the Queen’s period of lying in state ends on Monday 19th September at 6:30am- the day of her state funeral.
The Queen’s coffin arrived at 3pm yesterday after leaving Buckingham Palace for the final time at 2:22pm, accompanied by King Charles and other members of the Royal Family on foot. The procession passed by the Queen’s Gardens, The Mall, Horse Guards and Horse Guards Arch, Whitehall, Parliament Street, Parliament Square and New Palace Yard.
Of course, everything about the journey was carefully planned and carried out, including the exact time the Queen left the Palace.
While officials have not confirmed the reason for the timing, people have their own theories about why the procession started at 2:22pm, which you can read here.
