Every day on drivetime our Gaby Roslin suggests a movie or a telly show for you to kick back to, relax, grab a cuppa and escape into the world of entertainment. This week it’s all about catching up on some of Gaby’s all time favourites!

This week's Six Picks:

The News Reader

The Newsreader provides an insight into the smoky Australian newsrooms of the 1980s and the people who brought us our nightly news. Anna Torv as Helen Norville shows us how difficult it was for women to succeed back then and the show brings up all the real-life news stories from the time.

Gaby Says: “I am completely obsessed with this show. As someone who has worked in television for over twenty years and it’s SO true. The acting is outstanding.”

The Newsreader is now available on BBC iPlayer

Uncoupled

Niel Patrick Harris stars as Michael whose life seemed to be perfect until his long-time partner blindsided him after 17 years of being in a long-term relationship. He has to confront the nightmares of losing his soulmate and suddenly finding himself as a single gay man in his mid-40s. Hilarious and heartbreaking.

Gaby Says: “If you’re looking for something untaxing and easy viewing then I highly recommend this series!”

Uncoupled is now available to binge-watch on Netflix

Elvis

There is only one king of rock and roll and director Baz Luhrmann has brought him back to life with this blockbuster biopic. Austin Butler stars as Elvis alongside Tom Hanks as his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. From his childhood to becoming a rock and movie star in the 1950s this movie tells the full story of a legend.

Gaby says: “It’s so immersive I feel like I have met Elvis Presley”

Elvis is available to rent on Amazon Prime and Google Play

Fringe, Fame and Me

Discover the story of how a tiny festival which began in 1947 is now a global phenomenon where anyone can become a star and perform for the world in just one month.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival has made so many careers over the years so who better to tell the story of the festival. From the overnight success stories to the years and years of hard work just to get a half-filled audience, learn all about the world's biggest arts festival.

Fringe Fame and Me is available on BBC iPlayer

The Sandman

Want to be whisked away into a fantasy well this TV series based on a DC Comic will give you all the magic you need. Tom Sturridge is ‘Dream’, who embarks on an adventure in different worlds and times. He is the only one who can control people's dreams but has been imprisoned for over a century so must fix the chaos caused in his absence.

The Sandman is available on Netflix

EXTRA PICK FOR THE WEEKEND

Grease

We, unfortunately, lost one of the most iconic women in Film and Music history this week. Olivia Newton-John shined as the legendary Sandy Olsson in the greatest movie musical of all time. Dancing and singing with co-star John Travolta, this coming-of-age story is timeless and definitely one to watch during these ‘Summer Nights’.

Grease will be aired on Channel 4 this Saturday at 5.55 pm and is also available to stream on Paramount Plus.
