It’s not long now until House of the Dragon, the hotly-anticipated prequel to Game Of Thrones, arrives on our screens, and to get us in the mood, the official full-length trailer has been released.

The spin-off, which lands next month, is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and will tell the story of Rhaenyra and Aegon Targaryen and the war of the Seven Kingdoms, also known as The Dying of the Dragons.

The show will star Matt Smith, who will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother to King Viserys Targaryen and heir to the throne. Meanwhile, Paddy Considine is King Viserys, and Rhys Ifans will play Otto Hightower: the Hand of the King.

Steve Toussaint will feature as Lord Corlys Velaryon, and Slow Horses’ Olivia Cooke will appear as Otto’s daughter, Alicent Hightower.

Emma D’Arcy from Truth Seekers will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the king’s first-born child.

The series will be based on The Dying of the Dragons, a novella found in George RR Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood.

In the trailer, King Viserys Targaryen (Considine) says: “I will not be made to choose between my brother and my daughter.” Cue a couple of minutes of family drama, sword fights and dragons. And, thankfully, it looks awesome.

"When I am queen, I will create a new order" Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen says.

And House of the Dragon is not the only venture back into the Game of Thrones world that fans can look forward to. It was recently revealed that a Jon Snow spin-off - with the working title Snow - is in the works, with Kit Harington potentially coming back to reprise his role.

House of the Dragon is set to premiere on Sky Atlantic/NOW on 22nd August.
