These are sad times in Erinsborough, as Neighbours has officially finished filming ahead of the final ever episode airing on August 1st.
And whilst many of us will be upset that the long-running soap is ending, our disappointment surely pales in comparison to how Stefan Dennis is feeling. The actor played Paul Robinson in the first episode back in 1985, and continued to portray the cold-hearted local businessman until the cameras stopped rolling for the last time.
When talking about the final day of filming today (10th June), the actor - who initially starred in the show until 1993, and then again from 2004 until the current day - said: “It's a melancholy day for me.”
Talking to Australian breakfast programme Studio 10 about the end of an era, he added: “I sort of closed the studio door behind me on my very last scene, my very last dialogue scene and... I suddenly surprised myself by getting incredibly emotional.
“I just kept to myself and went to my dressing room... so I’m keeping a very low profile today. I think I’ll just be an absolute mess if I sort of hang around too long.”
The official Neighbours Twitter page posted a photo of the cast on the last day in the studio, simply captioned: “That’s a wrap.”
The final episode of the show will bring back some massive names from its 37 year history. Hollywood star Guy Pearce is set to make his big return as Mike, and Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are coming back too. The stars played the iconic Scott and Charlene. Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who played Izzy Hoyland, will also appear in the show's finale.
Whilst Neighbours will no longer be on our screens after August 1st, there is still something else to come from the hit show. The beloved soap will celebrate 37 years on telly with Neighbours: The Farewell Tour, which will take place across eight venues across the UK in March 2023. Yes please!
