Warning: Spoilers ahead

Last month, Netflix premiered the season four finale of Ozark and fans bid farewell to their beloved Byrd family after a shocking last episode.

However, we might not be saying goodbye forever because showrunner Chris Mundy has teased there are ideas for a future spin-off.

Speaking to TVLine about plans for the series going forward, he noted that the show was still very popular, and fans were eager for more.

He admitted that demand for additional Ozark content was so high that talks were already taking place at Netflix about potential spin-offs.

Mundy said: “It’s definitely something that people have talked about a bunch. There’s nothing definitive. We’re lucky that people seem to really like the show, so there’s obviously going to be some interest there.”

In one of the more shocking twists to the final installment of Ozark, one of the show's most beloved characters, Ruth (Julia Garner), was killed. Fans were devastated as it was hoped that she would be at the centre of any spin-offs from the show.

According to Mundy, however, that it still a possibility.

He explained: “There are still ways to stay inside the show and revisit things.”

The showrunner had previously revealed that Ruth’s death had caused some divide in the writers room, saying: “Half of the writers, or maybe a little under half, felt that there was something nice to knowing that Ruth would be out there in the world and doing well.”

Who knows, maybe Ruth could have the future we wanted for her in another timeline?

Mundy added: “It was really important for me to end this show. This is the work we did, we did our best, and we hope people like it.

“And then anything that spins off from it would be its own distinct thing, even though it’s in our universe.”

That said, for the time being we will be saying goodbye to the Ozark world while secretly hoping Mundy has something up his sleeve in the future.

All seasons of Ozark are now available on Netflix.
