Mind Blowing tech news from the USA and the invention of a new type of loudspeaker that’s as thin as a single sheet of paper and takes a fraction of the power of your, Tannoy, Wharfedale, Linn, NAIM or BOSE* (*there are other speakers ;)

Say hi - again - to the sound-blasting boffins at MIT who’ve invented the most amazing speaker. You think that little thing you attach to your phone wirelessly on holiday or in the garden is cool? Well get a load of this. It’s a speaker 8 microns thin, that you can attach to anything, and any size and it’ll effectively turn that thing into a speaker. Imagine a whole wall covered in this film and yes, the whole wall will be a speaker, which has amazing applications for immersive experiences. How it works is too complicated to explain in a one minute bulletin but in a nutshell, instead of one big speaker that takes a lot of power to vibrate, it’s thousands or even millions of tiny, microscopic speakers that vibrate using just a tiny fraction of that power, in tests, just one hundredth of the power of your home speaker! The applications for this are ‘limitless’ say its designer: Not just for entertainment, but for healthcare (ultrasound) and even for more efficiently stirring chemicals or paint!

Good news from here in the UK as a brilliant initiative to help native bees is spreading around the world!

Say hello to No Mow May, an idea brilliant in its simplicity for those of us with a lawn to just not mow it for the month of May. Great for us to have something ticked off our Spring To Do List, but even better for bees to have spring flowers vital for them before the summer kicks in. For the first time ever, I can say I have a garden! Mine is beautifully wild and there are dandelions and other wild spring flowers everywhere and it delighted me over the weekend to see bumblebees rasping about and getting some much needed sustenance. No Mow May started in the UK but has now spread to the States, where millions of Americans are now letting the violets, clover and dandelions have their way, through the whole month of May. It’s a win for bees, for biodiversity, for soil health and for you, wildflowers and flowering weeds are part of the joy of this beautiful season. In the immortal words of The Beatles, Let It ‘Bee’.
