Two words: Yeah, baby!

Your favourite villain has returned as the cast of Austin Powers reunites for a Super Bowl ad that has fans of the movies going mad.

In the advert for General Motors, we see Dr. Evil taking a leaf out of Greta Thunberg’s book and calling on his cohort to fight climate change.

Because what poses a bigger threat than that?

In the advert, Mike Myers makes a return as the notorious Dr. Evil alongside Seth Green (Scotty), Rob Lowe (young Number Two) and Mindy Sterling (Frau Farbissina).

The idea is that if Dr. Evil wants to take over the world, he first needs to save it from climate change. It begins with the villain announcing: “Ladies and gentlemen, our takeover of General Motors is complete.”

Of course, he then gets into an argument with Scotty, his son, who says the evil group should help “reduce tail pipe emissions”.

He explains: “Climate change is arguably the number-one threat to the world now.”

Dr. Evil’s second in command, Number Two, also echoes Scotty and explains that his boss is now “the number-two threat to the world”.

At first, Dr. Evil is reluctant to help the planet he is planning to dominate, but he eventually comes around to that way of thinking and declares he will use General Motors’ new electric cars to “help the planet”.

Seth Green spoke about returning to the role of Scotty in a statement acquired by Variety.

He said: “'It really does feel like the band that has been playing together for 30 years. Austin Powers is still one of the most globally recognised things I've done. There is a fan base for it’.”

Deborah Wahl, General Motors' global chief marketing officer, also said the idea behind the commercial was to turn climate change into the enemy.

She explained: “A large majority of first movers and the younger population, this is very much in line with their purpose and their vision, and they are very concerned about climate change overall”.

It has been over twenty years since the last Austin Powers film was released, but it still has a whole host of loyal fans that will be thrilled to see the cast reunite.

The advert will air during the Super Bowl this weekend on 13 February.
