If you need some Valentine’s Day dinner inspiration, Aldi has you covered.

Anyone looking to turn it up a notch for the special holiday won’t have too far to look, as the supermarket is bringing luxury living to the humble dining table with their upcoming Wagyu beef pizza.

You might think the speciality meat is usually only reserved for the fanciest of restaurants, but Aldi is breaking down that barrier by introducing Wagyu across their food range too.

When the Wagyu beef lands in stores on February 9th, prices will start from £3.99, which is worlds away from the upwards of £50 price tag in top notch restaurants.

The supermarket confirmed their luxe pizza will have a sourdough base, baked in a wood-fire oven and topped with shredded Wagyu beef brisket, teriyaki sauce and caramelised onions.

If a steak is more your thing, you can get a Wagyu Rump Steak, Ribeye Steak, Sirloin Steak and Fillet Steak, all for under £8 each.

Wagyu refers to the four main types of cow found in Japan, and soft marbling of the meat and expensive feed used to rear the animals is what usually contributes to the high cost.

The supermarket sources their Wagyu beef ‘from Warrendale Farms, which is the largest producer of British Wagyu beef.’

They also insist that ‘all the animals enjoy great quality living conditions and are reared for a minimum of 24 months, giving it its distinctive marbling and amazing taste.’

If cooking up an expensive steak sounds like your idea of a nightmare - don’t panic. The team over at Aldi have helpfully put out some suggestions.

According to the supermarket chefs, bring the steaks to room temperature before you start so that it cooks evenly.

Sear the Wagyu in a preheated pan for 2 minutes on each side, and the steak is usually best served medium rare.

Keep an eye on the premium pizzas in Aldi stores from February 9th.
