A brand-new teaser trailer for the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special dropped today, and it has got us far too excited.

The trailer opens with someone, who looks suspiciously like Luna Lovegood, reading the Daily Prophet newspaper from the franchise.

We then see appearances from Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) and Mark Williams (Mr. Weasley) who all receive the iconic Hogwarts acceptance letter, inviting them to the premiere of the anniversary special.

This teaser didn’t reveal too much, but it did confirm some details. So, here is everything we know about the Harry Potter 20th anniversary special.

Who will be there?

So, we know that Robbie, Matthew and Mark are all invited to the reunion, but who else will be making an appearance?

Of course, the leading stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will be there along with some other familiar faces.

Joining them are Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Evanna Lynch and, according to the trailer, ‘many more’.

What about JK Rowling?

The writer and creator of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, was not part of the trailer and will not be joining the cast and crew for the special. She will, however, be shown in archival footage from the creation of the first movie.

It is not know why the writer won't be appearing in the reunion, however Rowling has been taking a break from public life after she faced some backlash on Twitter last year for comments made about Transwomen.

This prompted Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) to speak out in favour of trans rights.

What is it?

The reunion will be marking twenty years since the release of the first film, Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone.

Daniel, Rupert and Emma are expected to join filmmaker Chris Columbus along with other cast members for an unscripted look back at the film and its creation. There will also be in-depth interviews with the cast and those involved in making the movie, plus some never-seen-before clips.

When is it on?

For all UK Potterheads, the anniversary special is set to premiere on Sky and NOW on New Year’s Day. It will also be available on HBO Max for viewers elsewhere.

How else is it being celebrated?

Sky and Now are also airing Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses on the 29 December.

This four-part event will be hosted by Helen Mirren and will see hardcore Potter fans having their knowledge put to the test in an attempt to be named House Cup Champion.

A Harry Potter 20th Anniversary pop-up channel is also set to go live on 19 December, showing all eight Potter films and the Fantastic Beast series.

On a scale of 1-10, we are 9 ¾ excited (sorry).
